Capcom has discreetly teased Resident Evil 9 in an unexpected way.
To celebrate reaching an incredible 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a short video on social media today, April 25. The clip shows Ada Wong exchanging a quiet conversation with one of gaming's most notorious villains before cutting to Leon Kennedy, surrounded by infected wearing party hats as they shuffle toward a church.
The scene then transitions to a rock tune, with Dr. Salvador oddly strumming his chainsaw like a guitar. The camera pulls back to reveal Leon enthusiastically pumping his fist, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign placed behind him.

If you look closely, turning the sign sideways reveals that its wooden planks form the Roman numeral "IX" — the number 9.
While this could be a coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem notes that the lowest plank on the sign is clearly absent in earlier parts of the video, strongly suggesting it was intentionally added. Interpret that as you will.
"I know what you did here," wrote one shocked commenter, adding a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline Resident Evil game will be directed by Resident Evil 7's Koshi Nakanishi.
"It was really difficult figuring out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi previously stated. "But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share details yet, but I hope you're excited for when I can." Rumors suggest — though unconfirmed — that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
