Bethesda's Iconic Voice Actor Shares Recovery Update

by Allison Apr 12,2025

Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many other titles, has shared a heartfelt message during his recovery after a life-threatening incident. Johnson was discovered "barely alive" in his hotel room last week, an event that led to a significant outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.

A video message from Johnson was uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised an impressive $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and other bills. In the video, Johnson revealed he was placed in a coma following the ordeal. "I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," he expressed, highlighting the overwhelming support he received.

Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After checking into his hotel, he did not appear at the event, prompting his wife, Kim Johnson, to call the hotel. Hotel security, along with emergency medical technicians, found Johnson in a critical condition, struggling to find a pulse.

Reflecting on his close call, Johnson remarked, "Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here." He credited his wife's quick actions and the support of his son and security for his survival. Johnson was hospitalized and placed in a coma for five days before learning about the GoFundMe campaign initiated by his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, and his wife Kim.

Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for flying his family to be by his side, and to Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals parent company, for a generous donation of $25,000. He also thanked Bethesda for their public support on social media, affirming his deep bond with the company: "You say that I'm your friend. I am. Always will be. Love you guys."

To his fans, both those who donated and those who showed support in other ways, Johnson expressed his love and appreciation. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," he assured, adding, "It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers."

Beyond his work in video games, Johnson has also featured in various film and television roles. His video game credits predominantly with Bethesda include voicing Ron Hope in Starfield, the Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among others.
