Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone

Astro Bot: A Platforming Phenomenon Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards

Team Asobi's Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, securing the title of the most awarded platformer ever, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year wins. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.

Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot, an expanded version of the popular Astro's Playroom tech demo, quickly exceeded expectations. It became the highest-rated new game of 2024, culminating in a triumphant Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024. However, the 104 Game of the Year awards, as tracked by gamefa.com, represent a milestone far beyond initial predictions.

While this achievement is undeniably impressive, matching the award counts of industry giants like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 wins), Elden Ring (435 wins), and The Last of Us Part 2 (326 wins) remains unlikely. Nevertheless, Astro Bot's success is undeniable, surpassing 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024 – a testament to the small team's (under 70 developers) dedication and creative vision over three years. The game's commercial success firmly establishes Astro Bot as a major PlayStation franchise.
