Assassin's Creed Shadows' Release Date Shifted Again to March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release date from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025. This decision follows an earlier postponement from the initial November 2024 release.
The publisher cites the need to incorporate player feedback and further refine the game's overall quality as the reason for the delay. This contrasts with the first delay, which stemmed from internal development challenges related to historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a polished and immersive experience, fostered by ongoing player communication. Both delays, according to Coté, provide crucial extra time for refinement and polishing.
The September 2024 delay resulted in pre-order refunds and the offer of free access to the game's first expansion for future pre-orders. While Ubisoft hasn't yet commented on similar compensation for this latest postponement, the shorter timeframe might mitigate potential player frustration.
This additional delay might also be connected to Ubisoft's internal investigation into its development practices, launched in response to disappointing sales and record losses in fiscal year 2023. The investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows aligns with this objective.
