Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, exceeding $2.5 Million for Cancer Prevention
The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This impressive total surpasses the 2024 event by over $100,000, demonstrating the continued success of this annual speedrunning marathon. The event featured a diverse lineup of speedruns, showcasing titles like Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and many more across various gaming platforms and genres.
AGDQ, a prominent winter event hosted by Games Done Quick (GDQ), complements the organization's Summer Games Done Quick marathon held in July. GDQ also organizes smaller events throughout the year, including Frame Fatales and GDQ Express. Noteworthy is their October 2024 Disaster Relief Done Quick event, which raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief in response to Hurricane Helene.
The AGDQ 2025 event in Pittsburgh, which began with a swift Pikmin (Switch) run by Ray0ken, significantly contributed to the Prevent Cancer Foundation's mission of early cancer detection, prevention, research, and public awareness programs. This partnership between GDQ and the PCF has a long history, with over $26 million raised cumulatively through various GDQ events.
A standout moment was a creative Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast) run by Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing the game's music to circumvent copyright restrictions. This innovative 18-minute run generated over $24,000 in donations.
The event concluded with a thrilling randomized four-player Super Metroid (SNES) race, resulting in a nail-biting finish with two runners separated by a mere second. Games Done Quick will continue its fundraising efforts with Summer Games Done Quick 2025, scheduled for July 6th in Minneapolis, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
