New 2025 Alienware Aurora 16 and 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available

by Aiden May 21,2025

Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its exciting new lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, named the "Alienware Aurora". You can now purchase the first 16" models directly from Dell. The more budget-friendly Alienware Aurora 16 comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the other hand, the premium Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. These models are slated to start shipping in mid-June. Both versions offer the option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, though these are currently on pre-order with no specific shipping date, as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops diverge from the typical gamer-centric design seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently launched Area-51. These laptops sport a more subdued, yet sleek appearance, resembling standard laptops with a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Alienware Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard backlighting, akin to what you might find on Apple MacBooks. However, don't let the understated design fool you; both the Aurora 16 and 16X are powered by robust gaming components, including a Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter, thanks to its more energy-efficient components like the low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and RTX 5070 graphics with an 85W TGP rating. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, being slightly thicker and heavier, accommodates more powerful cooling to support its higher-performance Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and RTX 5070 graphics with a maximum 115W TGP rating.

Both models offer a more affordable alternative to the new Alienware Area-51 laptop, which starts at over $3,000. They are also significantly more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16" laptop. Given the current market trends, as reported by Tom's Hardware, we don't anticipate significant price drops in the near future, especially with potential increases in Nvidia GPU prices.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a high-performance mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an additional $300, you gain access to a markedly more powerful machine, along with several enhanced features that justify the price difference. Here's a detailed look at what you get for the upgrade:

  • Better display: 2560x1600 resolution with a 240Hz G-Sync versus 2560x1600 at 120Hz
  • More powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX compared to Intel Core 9 270H
  • Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP versus 85W TGP
  • Double the RAM: 64GB as opposed to 32GB
  • Double the storage: 2TB versus 1TB
  • Superior build quality: Metal top and bottom versus metal top only
  • Enhanced keyboard: RGB backlighting
  • Advanced connectivity: Thunderbolt 4.0
