A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London

First unveiled at the recent PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game, Tides of Annihilation, has sparked significant interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.

The trailer features early development footage showcasing protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a ravaged, otherworldly London following an Outworld invasion. As they traverse the crumbling streets, they encounter enemies that obstruct their path. It's revealed that Gwendolyn possesses the unique ability to summon over ten legendary knights, drawing inspiration from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

After clearing out the adversaries and exploring further through a magical portal, Gwendolyn and Niniane are drawn into a dramatic boss fight with Mordred, a character with opposing objectives who is determined to thwart Gwendolyn's plans. This intense battle showcases the game's dynamic combat, underscored by a haunting choir, making for a compelling conclusion.

According to game producer Kun Fu in a recent PlayStation.Blog post, the battle system will offer "intuitive co-op combat within a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with unique combat roles simultaneously, necessitating strategic decisions based on the situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It’s a system that our team, comprised of veterans from top game studios, has thoroughly enjoyed during internal playtests," Fu elaborated.

A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta

The community's excitement is palpable, with many expressing their intent to purchase the game upon its release, recognizing its "immense potential."

Tides of Annihilation marks the debut title of Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, which blends Arthurian legend with an alternate, modern-day London setting. Players will assume the role of Gwendolyn, a survivor in this apocalyptic world. While no specific release date has been confirmed, the game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
