Mask Around: The Sequel to the Bizarre Roguelike Platformer, Mask Up

Following the 2020 release of the unique roguelike platformer, Mask Up, developer Rouli returns with a sequel, Mask Around. This time, prepare for a blend of run-and-gun action and brawling. The signature yellow goo returns, with some intriguing new gameplay twists.

For those unfamiliar with the original, Mask Up was a distinctive 2D roguelike brawler where players evolved from a puddle of yellow goo into a formidable, well, goo-pile. Mask Around builds upon this foundation, adding 2D shooting mechanics. Players can seamlessly switch between shooting and melee combat, using their goo abilities strategically.

As before, the yellow goo is a limited resource, requiring careful management, particularly during boss fights. The sequel boasts improved graphics and a refined gameplay experience. The challenge now extends beyond simply maintaining your goo supply; players must also strategically decide when to use it, while utilizing weapons as backup.

Mask Around is currently available on Google Play. An iOS release is yet to be announced. While a direct comparison to the original is difficult without having played it, Mask Around appears to be a significant advancement, expanding on the original gameplay while retaining its core mechanics.
